Preserving Vedic Culture Through Mass Distribution and Education

The Purpose of This Project

At the end of the previous kalpa, during the reign of Svayambhuva Manu, a demon named Hayagriva stole the Vedic knowledge away from Lord Brahma. Therefore, the Supreme Personality of Godhead took the incarnation of a fish (Matsya Avatar) and saved the Vedas by killing the demon.

Originally preserved through oral tradition, the Vedas were first put into writing by Srila Vyasadeva, the literary incarnation of the Lord, 5000 years ago. After compiling the Vedas, Srila Vyasadeva was inspired to present their profound essence in the form of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Srimad-Bhagavatam is known as the ripened fruit of the tree of Vedic literature. It is the most complete and authoritative exposition of Vedic knowledge – spanning from the nature of the self to the origin of the universe.

The very first verse of Srimad-Bhagavatam states that this knowledge only relates to the process of self-realization, and that it will not be tainted with sectarian religious ideas, philosophical conjecture, or worldly concerns. The second text affirms that anyone who reads the book systematically will achieve the spiritual success meant for all human beings. All individual and societal problems can be solved by spiritual solutions that transcend the material modes of nature. Such transcendental knowledge, has taken the form of Srimad Bhagavatam, the spotless Purana which shines light in this dense darkness of the age of Kali Yuga.

This knowledge is most applicable to this age, more than any other age, due to the intensity of dissatisfaction, distraction, and diminished self-awareness. Therefore, it is a worthy cause to preserve this culture, disseminate it to the world, and awaken a spiritual revolution in the hearts of the modern society. Just as Lord Matsya and our previous teachers carefully preserved this knowledge for our generation, as an act of gratitude, it is our responsibility to continue this tradition and do the same for forthcoming generations. The Go Matsya project is a global effort to save and preserve this Vedic culture through mass distribution and education.
